A Midcentury Cinderella Story

  • “A Cinderella Story” transformed a modest late-1940s ranch house in Piedmont Heights into a modern family home with an integrated terrace-level apartment. The original home was constrained by compartmentalized circulation and an unclear entry sequence positioned opposite the drive. The renovation reorganized the home around a more centralized front porch and entry, with new landscape-integrated stairs guiding visitors naturally from the drive to the front door. The terrace-level apartment was designed with a discreet side entrance, allowing it to function independently while remaining connected to the overall composition of the house. The exterior strategy focused on reshaping the proportions and curb appeal of the original ranch. Vertically organized windows, dark siding elements, and a modern flat-roofed entry composition visually break down the home’s long horizontal form while connecting the main level to the apartment below. The result is a light-filled modern renovation that balances flexibility, family living, and long-term value while honoring the spirit of the original home.
