On Rosedale Road, a pivotal road in Atlanta’s historic Virginia Highlands neighborhood, the existing house was an unassuming post-war Colonial bungalow set remote from the street by a rather imposing front yard berm. So foremost on the new owners, and new parents  minds was replacing the small front door stoop with a useable porch for a more welcoming face to the street to better engage the family oriented neighborhood.  Because of the typical narrow intown lot, building up rather than out was an obvious choice for expanding the 1,700 SF footprint to 2,400 SF for the practical use of a modern family.  Maintaining the character of the original home was a key concern, as well as being responsible about height and compatibility.
