Buckhead

One of our favorite places to work is the old neighborhoods of Buckhead. The small cottages that most forget about are still found on certain streets and were built long before the buckhead we know today.

A quait Brookwood Hills cottage is expanded discretely, hiding a second floor addition behind the existing roof ridge.  The new carport doubles as outdoor party space, adjacent to a new screened porch.

Expanding responsibly to this Garden Hills home meant creating a double-gable behind the existing ridge and hiding the second level in the roof.  Money was saved by reusing the existing detached garage framing in the new brick-clad scheme.

Jones Pierce’s job was to transform the Holt/Rainocek sunroom and renovate the kitchen while keeping the original appearance of the Buckhead, Atlanta home. The clients stipulated that they wanted a clean, refined, and classic look. To achieve this, the sunroom plate-glass windows were replaced with traditional windows and ceiling beams were added. We combined original hallways to the den and kitchen for a more open feel. The kitchen cabinets were built-in to provide extra storage and to display family china. Island cabinets were chosen with a wenge finish that complements the stove hood. Additionally, a small half-bath was remodeled to provide for an antique cabinet retrofitted with a new sink and granite top. Jones Pierce listened, designed, then guided this family through the process. They worked closely together to achieve all project goals.

The challenge of this renovation in Garden Hills was to make the house grow, but not overpower its site. Jones Pierce recognized that the original structure had quaint charm that could not be lost in the addition of an upstairs master suite, office and children’s bed and bath. By working backwards through the home, Jones Pierce was able to clean up the front of the site with a clear, processional entry as well as define a character for the rear that encompassed an overall style for the home.
